We would like to inform everyone who will be on campus during the fall break about some additional testing of the public notification speaker system (known on campus as the Cooper System) this Friday, October 11, from 10 a.m. until approximately noon.
The testing will allow University Police staff members to obtain updated training on how to use the system. The test will also ensure that all components of the system are functioning properly. Since actual emergencies are extremely rare, ensuring that UPD staff are familiar with the operation of the system will ensure proper and prompt use of the system in an actual event or emergency.
The daily tests which occur around 1:55 p.m. each day are automated to ensure the audio functionality of the system is active, but because it's automated, UPD staff is not involved in the operations of those tests.
During the test on Friday, chimes and tones may be heard, as well as voice messages. Any voice messages will be preceded by the phrase "This is only a test."
Friday of fall break was chosen as the test day so that classes are not interrupted during the testing.
If you have any questions regarding the test, please contact University Police at (716) 673-3333.
