FRED Diversity Dialogues for Students, Faculty & Staff

Date Posted:

In an effort to support Fredonia's commitment to Inclusive Excellence, students faculty and staff are encouraged to participate in the following campus-wide dialogues. These conversations are structured to promote meaningful discussion around topics of diversity and inclusion.

Building a Collective Culture Around Social Identities
Thursday, October 22, 2020, 3:00 - 4:00 pm
Register to attend via Zoom

Students, faculty, and staff at Fredonia come to the campus with unique life experiences and understandings of themselves and the world around them. These experiences and perceptions have an impact on an individual’s identities. Today’s dialogue will allow participants to explore the identities that they most closely relate to, and will also give them a chance to analyze the experiences that have shaped these identities.

Social Identity During COVID-19
Friday, October 23, 2020, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm
Register to attend via Zoom

Although a common statement during the pandemic has been that "We are all in this together," the ways in which we have been affected by and that we have responded to the pandemic can be influenced by our social identities. In this dialogue, participants will be encouraged to think about their own perceptions of their social identity(ies) and about how the current pandemic may have changed our - and others' - perceptions of these identities.

Current Events & Social Identities
Monday, October 26 at 10:00 - 11:00 am
Register to attend via Zoom

In this dialogue we will examine how our social identities (such as race, gender, religion, socio-economic status, etc...) are impacting our experiences and attitudes towards current events. Dialogue participants will be invited to share thoughts and feelings around social identities and examine interpersonal conflicts.

Exploring Nationality at Fredonia
Wednesday, October 28, 4:00 - 5:00 pm
Register to attend via Zoom

Many students, faculty, and staff members come to Fredonia from different countries and cultures.  In this dialogue, we will be exploring nationality as a social identity, with the hope that participants will leave our dialogue with a better understanding of how nationality and differences in nationality impact ourselves and our fellow humans.
