The Chautauqua County Health Department has issued a "Boil Water Order" and a "Water Conservation Order" for village of Fredonia water customers. This includes the SUNY Fredonia campus. The full notification is below.
Here on campus, FSA will boil all water for cooking prior to use. All hot drink stations at FSA locations - i.e. Starbucks - have proper filtering on the machines. Cold beverages and espressos will not be served at FSA locations until the advisory is lifted. Cranston Marche will have bottled water to drink as the fountain beverage machines will be taken offline for the time being. Campus water fountains/filling stations will also be taken offline. Do not use the fountains/filling stations, even if one does not have a sign placed on it.
The campus will coordinate distributing bottled water to residential students.
We will share updates regarding the order as we receive them.
Here is the notification from the Chautauqua County Health Department:
"The Chautauqua County Health Department has issued a boil water order for all Village of Fredonia water customers and properties outside the Village boundaries supplied by their water system Friday January 30, 2026. Additionally, the Village of Fredonia, in coordination with the Chautauqua County Health Department, has issued a Mandatory Water Conservation Order for all water customers due to a water main break that is causing substantial water loss in the system. Customers are asked to conserve water to ensure that the water treatment plant can produce enough water to meet customer demand while Village staff work to locate and fix the leak."
