Lake Effect Snow Warning

LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM MONDAY TO 7 AM EST WEDNESDAY

The event: Heavy lake effect snow is expected. Total snow accumulations of 8 to 16 inches in the most persistent lake snows with local amounts up to 20 inches across the Chautauqua Ridge. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce areas of blowing and drifting snow.

The locations: Wyoming, Chautauqua, Cattaraugus, and Southern Erie counties. Heaviest lake effect snows will remain well south of the Buffalo Metro area.

The timing: From 10 AM Monday to 7 AM EST Wednesday.

The impact: Travel could be very difficult to impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute.

Additional details: The heaviest snow and most significant impacts are expected Monday night through Tuesday, when snow rates up to 2" per hour can occur within the heaviest snow bands. Heavy snow will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.
