Orientation Leaders Wanted!

Date Posted:

The Office of New Student and Transition Programs is looking to hire summer and fall student leaders to be part of the orientation team!  This is a paid position with a flexible online work schedule from June-July and then have in-person, on campus responsibilities in August.  We are seeking students that represent all different majors, minors, and campus experiences.   Applications can be submitted online through April 3, 2023.

The role of a Jump Start & NSO Leader is to provide support and engagement for incoming first-year and transfer students who plan to enroll beginning in the Fall 2023 semester. A leader will first serve as a virtual coach to a group of 30-50 new students by assisting them with completing their enrollment items and the FREDReady mini course, as well as providing opportunities for new students to get to know each other. Then during New Student Orientation, which takes place during the days leading up to the first day of classes, leaders will be expected to work in-person assisting with NSO events and activities, as well as continuing to serve as a coach to new students in various ways.

In the past, not only do we find a leader's guidance to be extremely helpful to new students, but this experience provides current Fredonia students the opportunity to develop strong organizational, interpersonal communication, and problem solving skills which are essential to future employment!

An ideal candidate will:

  • Be welcoming and helpful to new students who are joining the Fredonia community.

  • Be able to work independently and as a part of a team within a flexible summer schedule.

  • Present oneself professionally, as they would be representing the university and its values.

  • Think creatively and present new ideas to the team for ways of providing engaging experiences for new students.

  • Have knowledge of many aspects of the university as it relates to living on campus, participating in clubs and organizations, academics, and what it’s like to be a Fredonia student.

  • Be self-motivated and organized while working virtually.

  • Exhibit excellent communication skills through email, Zoom and other virtual platforms, in-person, and through social media.

  • Be in good academic standing and have practiced good community standards.
